On Tuesday Jet had her MRI done. They told us it'd take about 1 to 1.5 hours to do the test of her foot/ankle. About 10 min from when she should have been done I saw the front desk answer the phone and then they looked at me and said, "We are having a problem." I immed thought of Jet and was like, o boy! She then continued by saying, The machine she was in malfunctioned and so they had to put her to another one so its going to be a bit longer." All in all Jet was in the MRI machines or 2 hr and 20 min!!! When she came out she looked at me and groaned, "I was SO bored!" I had to laugh cause I could only imagine. She is so much like her dad in that she's always fidgeting around. :)
Today was the follow up from MRI to her Ortho Dr. We got there for her 2:20 apointment and an hour later we finally got to see the Dr. They were pretty busy with hurt kids everywehre it seemed. Dr. came into the room having just gotten off the phone from radiology at the Children's Hospital. The radiologist informed him that he had never seen a foot so messed up like that due to a sprain. Our doc went on to explain that because of the way she had twisted it in Feb. it had caused her bones to bruise and some joint issue to where the muscles decided a month later that things just weren't right and they have locked solid. The MRI still showed bruising and quite a bit of muscle mess up. The shot he had given her a couple weeks ago did alleviate a small amount of the lock up but not enough to do anything and the foot has gotten worse. What is happening is (if you look at the left side of your left foot) all those muscles on the left of the foot are pulling up towards the knee area which is causing that side of her foot to continue to raise up which is creating a drastic "plunge" to the inside part of the foot to where she is basically walking on the side of her big toe and part of the side of her ankle.
The next step is we have to go to another kind of doc (and I can't pronounce it) that will do Botox shots down the front of her leg in the muscle to try to get things to relax from higher up in hopes that the foot muscles will relax. At this point nothing can be done surgically to fix it but we have to get her muscles to unclench due to the tilt of the ankle/foot getting worse every week. If the Botox shots work to cause the muscles to unfreeze then she will need a cast or boot to retrain the foot to walk properly by keeping the left side down on the ground where it is supposed to be. Our doc was straining with whitened knuckles to attempt moving the foot and was afraid he was going to hurt her but still it didn't move! The shot had given her a small amount of up and down movement but its not what she needs.
That is where we are at this time. I will be calling to get her the appointment scheduled with this other doc with the other shots asap and then we will go from there. Isn't it amazing what the body decides its' going to do and won't be persuaded to change?! :) I was very glad to hear that it wasn't an issue in the bones (something that had been suggested) as that would have led to other joints, prohibiting mobility. I thank God that, even though its been trying for her at times with decreased mobility, it is something that looks like it will just take coaxing and time and meds and possibly therapy once we get it to cooperate. :)
This is Jet's left foot and my left foot to try to give ya an idea how its bending in at her ankle.
Looking from the bottom of our feet (pardon the dirt :) we did this on a whim). You can see how she walks on her big toe and how her ankle has formed this extra part due to her walking on it.
This is the back view of our left feet. Mine on L and Jets on right. :(
Maybe putting these pics on here will help ya understand and see why we need to get those muscles to unlock so that it prevents furthur damage and gets her walking better. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for your thoughts, suggestions and prayers. I know its not a life threatening ordeal or anything and I also know there are kids out there suffering far worse things. So don't take any of my posts as complaints. I'm just keeping ya up to date :)
